Bunks at this camp-like complex on the canyon floor are in private cabins sleeping two to 10 people and four hiker-only single-sex dorms, each with five bunks. Rates include bedding, soap and towels, but meals are extra and must be reserved when booking your accommodations. Phantom is accessible by mule trip, on foot or via raft on the Colorado River.
Snacks, pack lunches, limited supplies, and beer and wine are sold at the canteen. You're free to bring your own food and stove.
Reservation requests for Phantom Ranch are assigned by lottery beginning 15 months below the stay date at 12:01am on the first of the month until 11:59pm on the 25th of the month. Spaces unfilled by lottery are available by phone 12 to 13 months in advance. For example, if you want to stay in July, lottery submission is open May 1–25 of the previous year. You will be notified in June, and unclaimed rooms are available for sale on July 1 (one year before desired stay). Without a reservation, put yourself on the waiting list at the Bright Angel Transportation Desk the day before you want to go (starting at 5am) then show up again by 6:15am the next morning and hope to snag a canceled bed. You can also call the day before about cancellations. Maximum stay rules depend on the time of year and the type of reservation; hiker group reservations are limited to two nights March through October and three nights November through February.
Children must be aged six or older to sleep in the dorms.
