New Holland Brewing – The Knickerbocker

Michigan

The cavernous, echo-y building feels somewhat impersonal – it's vast enough that full-size barrels hang from the high ceiling as light covers – but hey, New Holland is one of Michigan's biggest brewers with legions of fans. Popular swills from the 22-strong draft list include Dragon's Milk (bourbon barrel stout) and Hoptronix (double IPA).

Beer zealots will want to visit the gift shop. Hour-long tours ($15) take place on Saturdays at 1:30pm and 3pm; generous samples and a pint glass are included. Book online in advance. For bites, the brewery offers a lengthy menu of burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, pasta and fish dishes.

The Knickerbocker is New Holland's second location. The site also makes spirits, including gin. The main facility is in nearby Holland, MI.
