Maine Huts & Trails

Top choice

If you enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing, but not backpacking, consider a hut-to-hut trip through Maine Huts & Trails, a wonderful non-profit organization operating four off-the-grid ecolodges along an 80-mile trail system near Sugarloaf. Choose a dorm bed or a private bunkroom and enjoy three meals (including a packed lunch) and plush off-the-grid relaxation.

Pillows and blankets are provided, but not bedding. Winter and summer are peak times for the huts; in the off-season you can still stay overnight, but without meal service (and with reduced rates of $40). There is no vehicle access to the lodges; two of them are less than 2 miles from a trailhead.
