Spotykach

Top choice in Kyiv

Spotykach shed its retro-Soviet theme in 2014 and adopted a Ukraininan revolutionary theme, with pictures of Taras Shevchenko and Bohdan Khelmytsky (and Che Guevara) replacing Lenin. They do highly original takes on Ukrainian classics, including yellow-and-blue varenyky – the ultimate nationalist expression – and a borshch popsicle.

Spotykach itself is vodka-based liquor made with different flavours, from blackcurrant to horseradish, and takes its name from the Russian for 'stumble' – an effect it might have on the uninitiated.
