Da-yi Temple

Penghu Islands

The 200-year-old Da-yi Temple is dedicated to Guandi, the god of war, with 4m bronze statues guarding the entry stairs.

Some say that when the French tried to attack Penghu, mysterious forces kept them away from the temple. In late 2018, environmentalists relaunched a campaign to free the turtles who have been living and breeding for decades in an underground coral pool beneath the temple.
