Wu River Academy

This handsomely restored walled complex was originally built as a centre of learning in 1780. The two main shrine-like study rooms honour Chu Hsi, a scholar who sought a revival of Confucian values during the Sung dynasty (AD 960–1279).

It's a peaceful place to sit and read while serenaded by birdsong.
