The village of Samos grew up around this very fine Benedictine monastery, whose origins go back to the 6th century but whose main buildings date from the 16th to 18th. It has two beautiful big cloisters – one Gothic, with distinctly unmonastic Greek nymphs adorning its fountain, the other neoclassical and filled with roses. Visits are by guided tour only.
