House Hostel

Top choice in Sokcho

A five-minute walk from the intercity bus terminal, this place combines the niceties of Korean motel rooms – minifridge and basic toiletries – with free amenities such as bikes, laundry and breakfast (cereal, bread and coffee) and a very cheap coffee machine (₩200). The quirky common lounge and charming, light-filled breakfast room are great for meeting travellers.

There's also a large lounge area downstairs beyond the breakfast room with darts and table football. The English-speaking young owner Yu sits down with all guests for a thorough and excellent overview of the area with a map. Rooms are comfortable and beds come with electric underblankets. Watch out for the first flight of stairs which has one step higher than the others, and can send you flying. No lift and you need to make up your bed.
