Beco

Bairro Alto, Chiado & Cais do Sodré

Michelin-starred chef José Avillez' foray into gourmet cabaret is tucked clandestinely away inside a former chapel, where reservations are purposely treated with suspicion and secrecy. It might raise some eyebrows, but show aside, his 12-course surprise tasting menu is every bit as good as that of his flagship Belcanto, for half the price.

And there's something fun about being served dishes like coastal prawn ceviche and flowers with yuzu honey and leche de tigre snow, or oxtail, rice and foie gras, by flirtatious, tightly corseted waitresses during a sexy cabaret behind a secret door. Despite the cleavage, even our own mother was wowed!
