One of the South Island鈥檚 largest public galleries, this 1908 mansion houses a notable collection of NZ and European art across various eras, alongside temporary exhibitions staged by the gallery's ardent supporters. The Gaelic name means 鈥榓t home鈥 and is pronounced 鈥榚gg-and-tie鈥.
The gallery housing the permanent collection was closed for structural strengthening when we last visited, but there are still excellent changing exhibitions to explore, plus the lovely sculpture garden.
