Hameediyah

George Town

Hameediyah dates back to 1907 and is supposedly the oldest place serving nasi kandar (curries served over rice) in Penang, though the current restaurant is modern and comfortable (as is the branch a few doors down, serving from the same kitchen). Come for rich ayam kapitan (Penang-style chicken curry), rendang daging (beef with roasted coconut and lime leaves) and murtabak – fried flatbread stuffed with spiced egg plus minced mutton, chicken or vegetables.
