Stadio

Ancient Rome

One of the few obviously recognisable buildings on the Palatino, the sunken stadio (stadium) was probably used by the emperors for private games and events. It was built along the eastern flank of the Domus Augustana during Domiziano's reign and was originally overlooked by a two-tiered portico.
