Cromwell's Castle

The Midlands

Defending Banagher Bridge just across the River Shannon in County Galway, this small 'castle' (really, fort) dates to the 1650s. It was modified during the Napoleonic Wars and abandoned just five years later in 1810. The interior is closed to the public.
