Kiscell Museum

脫buda & Buda Hills

Housed in an 18th-century monastery, this museum contains three excellent sections. Downstairs you鈥檒l find a complete 19th-century apothecary brought from K谩lvin t茅r; a wonderful assembly of ancient signboards advertising shops and other trades; and rooms dressed in empire, Biedermeier and art nouveau furniture.

An impressive collection of works by artists J贸zsef Rippl-R贸nai, Lajos Tihanyi, Istv谩n Cs贸k and B茅la Cz贸bel and organised by the Municipal Picture Gallery (F艖v谩rosi K茅pt谩r) is upstairs. The stark Gothic church shell used for temporary multimedia and art exhibits is visually arresting.

To reach the museum, walk up steep Kiscelli utca from B茅csi 煤t and then climb the steps called P茅rcsi Lajos l茅pcs艖. Bus 165 from III Kolosy t茅r eliminates the climb.
