Kasteel Meulen

Lille, Flanders & the Somme

Wheat flour has long been milled and linseed oil pressed in windmills like this one, set on the highest point in town to catch the wind. In the 19th century, the region was dotted with 2000 such structures. No longer in use and without its sails, Kasteel Meulen opens only occasionally to the public – check with the tourist office for details.
