A love child of Havana’s original Bodeguita, this carefully branded ‘dive’ bar has a couple of advantages over its big-city mentor: 1) Hemingway never came here, meaning the signature mojitos only cost CUC$2; and 2) it’s free of space-hogging tour groups.
However, despite the graffiti-covered streetside bar where son-playing musical trios roam, we’re recommending this place for its food served in an air-conditioned restaurant out back. Waited on by keen young guys dressed in guayabera shirts, you’ll be served generous meals of comida criolla (Creole food) that are supplemented with mucho bread, rice, salad and banana chips. The deep, rich picadillo (spicy minced beef) is highly recommended.
