Perched on land that becomes a virtual island in the RÃo FrÃo during the rainy season, this lodge is surprisingly upscale. Well-appointed rooms have sliding glass doors, wooden and wrought-iron furnishings, and tiny terraces facing the garden. Relax in the pool or Jacuzzi or stroll the leafy grounds. Just off the main road before Caño Negro's main plaza.
Staff can make arrangements for boat tours of the lagoon. There's a lovely patio restaurant serving freshly prepared meals (US$10 to US$16) and a friendly bartender who will bend your ear as you bend your elbow. Lunch and dinner are extra, but worth the price.
Buses will stop at the 'front door.' If you are driving on Ruta 35 towards Los Chiles, exit the highway 8 km before Los Chiles when you see the signs for the lodge.
