Finca Rosa Blanca

Top choice

Set amid a stunning hillside organic coffee plantation 6km northwest of Barva, this honeymoon-ready, Gaudí-esque confection of suites and villas is cloaked in fruit trees that shade private trails. The 14 sparkling-white adobe rooms with wood-beamed ceilings and private balconies are lavishly appointed; one tops a tower with 360-degree views, reached by a winding staircase made from a tree trunk.

Rooms come with minifridges and coffee from the plantation. In the grounds, you can shower in an artificial waterfall, take a moonlit dip in the pool or Jacuzzi, and have an organic coffee scrub at the spa. Fuel up at the hotel’s bar and restaurant; it has magnificent views and serves fresh local produce, including eggs from the chicken coop in the garden for breakfast and Costa Rican or fusion dishes like the catch of the day with herby yogurt and creole salad. Credit cards accepted.

At 9am and 1pm, Finca Rosa Blanca offers a 2½-hour tour of its picturesque, 12-hectare organic coffee plantation, processing plant and roasting house. Guests hike the fields, learn about the processes and taste the delicious results. Nonguests can pay US$40 per person for the same tour.
