Lion Grove Garden

Suzhou

Constructed in 1342 by the Buddhist monk Tianru to commemorate his master, who lived on Lion Cliff on Zhejiang’s Tianmu Mountain, this garden's curiously shaped rocks were meant to resemble lions, protectors of the Buddhist faith.

Try not to stray far from the touring route, especially around the warrenlike rockery – taking shortcuts may require doubling back against the crowds.
