Tower of Buddhist Incense

Beijing

The crowning glory of Longevity Hill, this majestic building proved the most expensive reconstruction project of Cixi's grand design. Mounted on a 20m-tall stone base, the 41m-tall tower was originally meant to have nine storeys to match Wuhan's Yellow Crane Tower, but construction was halted at eight. Cixi would pray here on the first and 15th day of each lunar month.
