Jumbo the Elephant Memorial

Southwestern Ontario

A life-sized statue of Jumbo – the beloved seven-ton African elephant and star of the PT Barnum circus from 1882 to 1885 – sits on a hill near the northwestern entrance to town. The elephant was killed nearby when struck by a freight train as he and a dwarf elephant, Tom Thumb, were crossing the tracks after a show. A popular spot for photos.
