I'm a New York-based food and travel writer and author of the books "Underground Worlds: A Guide to Spectacular Subterranean Places" and "An Irreverent Curiosity: In Search of the Church's Strangest Relic in Italy's Oddest Town," which was made into a documentary by the National Geographic Channel.
I also write for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, Food & Wine, Newsweek, and Travel + Leisure, among other publications. My essays have been anthologized multiple times, including twice in the annual Best American Travel Writing series.
