Around 15km northeast of Mundaring near Chidlow, freshwater Lake Leschenaultia is a picturesque former railway dam created in 1897, and now boasting beaches and a swimming pontoon. Birds, native critters and walking trails abound. There are simple campsites here too ($39 for two people); contact the Mundaring Visitor Centre for info and bookings.
